Christmas Meal - Friday 15/12/2006

Meal at the new veggie friendly Shanti restaurant in Gateshead. The food was fantastic, company was excellent and a bargain! A good night all round.

Christmas Party - Saturday 09/12/2006

A big thank you to Douglas and John for opening up their lovely home for our Christmas Party. Truly a great event. Also thanks to Margaret who is a professional jazz and blues singer who stuningly entertained us with some wonderful unaccompanied singing amidst the lashings of great veggie food, in a very nice, friendly setting. Another great VegNE social.

LUSH Event - Wednesday 15/11/2006

A visit to LUSH's Newcastle shop for a party. Vegetarian/Vegan nibbles and drinks were provided. They were able to do a talk/demonstration about their products. If you want further details about the company and products see the LUSH website.

supported The Wellness Weekend - Saturday & Sunday 11/11/2006 - 12/11/2006

The Wellness Weekend took place at Burnside College & School over the weekend. Some of our members had a stall/display inform to people of the benefits of being veggie. Thanks to those who helped out, and to those who made donations towards the hamper to raise funds. Several people said they wanted to become members of VegNE. We also have details for several alternative practitioners who would be willing to give a talk to the group on a variety of subjects, if we are interested, which is great news. Good use was made of the recently acquired display boards, making the stall look very professional.

The evening at Sky Apple was great. The food there was amazing. The menu isn't the same ever and the cooking is quite creative.

AGM - Thursday 02/11/2005

A successful AGM. We were all very pleased with the success we have had in our second year, especially our outside displays. A big thanks to the VegSoc for their continued support and the grants they have made us. John has agreed to be our new treasurer. Mike has agreed to stay on for another year as Organiser. Suggestions were made for future events. Also a big thanks to Amy for a great, fun, quiz.

supported The Wellness Show - Saturday & Sunday 23/09/2006 - 24/09/2006

The Wellness Show took place at Newcastle Racecourse over the weekend. Some of our members had a stall/display inform to people of the health sides of being veggie. They also told of the benefits of joining VegNE & the Vegetarian Society, plus the support both can give to help people become/stay & enjoy being veggie.

Garden Party - Saturday 09/09/2006

A very big thanks to Douglas and his partner John for hosting our very successful party at their home, and providing some great food and wine. And thanks to all who came along and brought their delicious home made food. It was so nice to meet with friends again. Let's hope we can do another similar event sometime during the forthcoming winter months. It is so good to meet up and do what we like best - eat fab veggie/vegan food and share ideas about what the group should be doing to advance the veggie/vegan cause in the North-East!

supported Health Awareness Road Show - Thursday 07/09/2006

The Health Awareness Road Show held at North Shields Tribunals Hearing Centre at Royal Quays, was to promote the benefits of healthy food and exercise, making people aware of their choices and giving them the tools to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. VegNE helped out with another display. We had a great reception and had a good display of VegSoc leaflets and booklets. We spoke to a lot of people, and they have asked us if we will do it again sometime!

Picnic with North Tyneside Vegan Group - Sunday 23/07/2006

The lovely weather held for the second picnic with the local Vegan group on the beach at St Mary's Lighthouse near Whitley Bay. A very good turnout, with members of VegNE, the vegan group, and their families. We all brought vegetarian/vegan food which some of us shared.

South Tyneside Cultures Day - Sunday 02/07/2006

We had a stall at South Tyneside Cultures Day (Mela) at Bents Park South Shields. What a great success it was. Lots of people wanted more information and took leaflets and booklets kindly supplied, yet again, by the VegSoc. From this, hopefully several new members will come forward. The stall was held from 12 Noon to almost 5pm when we called it a day and it turned out to be glorious weather for a change and very warm.

Newcastle Green Festival - Saturday & Sunday 03/06/2006 - 04/06/2006

We had stall again at the Newcastle Community Green Festival. We had some volunteers from the group to look after the stall for the two days. The tombola was a success, and enabled us to raise some funds. Fortunately the weather was lovely too.

Bob Trollop's Food Tasting Event - Thursday 25/05/2006

19 of us attended this Vegetarian Week event, and those who didn't or couldn't come along really missed out on a fabulous treat. The best event ever! The selection of veggie and vegan food on offer was really great. Our big thanks to Elaine and the company for such a great event and delicious food. Also, to the landlords, Claire & Daniel who made us so welcome.

Radio Newcastle Interview - Monday 22/05/2006

Mike, our coordinator went to Radio Newcastle where Julia Hankin interviewed him on her afternoon show. He was there about half an hour and quite a few people were ringing in.

Tapas Meal - Friday 24/03/2006

We enjoyed a belated Christmas meal at the vegetarian Sky Apple Café, Heaton Road, Heaton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE6 5HP. For location see this map. As usual the food was delicious. A good turnout, as our meals are always popular events.
